Genocide, Eight Stages of Genocide and the Sikh Genocide 1984

This Article, in Punjabi Language, authored by S. Parmjeet Singh Gazi (President of Sikh Students Federation), was first published by Amritsar Times, Weekly Newspaper Published from USA, Issue: 27 October to 02 November 2010.

It provides basic information about Genocide and International Law related to it.

In second and third portion of this text, Events of Sikhs Genocide 1984, in which more than ten thousand innocent Sikhs were massacred in more than hundred cities and towns through out India in first three days of November 1984, are compared with eight stages of Genocide. Indian authorities perpetuated the massacre and killer mobs were led by Indian politician. Civil and police authorities either connived at the massacre or at many places actively facilitated it or participated in the massacre.

A sequence of all stages of genocide is compared with the âEight stages of genocideâ, (Gregory H. Stanton, President of Genocide Watch ) namely:

Stage 2: Symbolization

Stage 3: Dehumanization

Stage 4: Organization

Stage 5: Polarization

Stage 6: Preparation

Stage 7: Extermination, and

Stage 8: Denial
